چکیده

System reliability depends on inherent mechanical and structural aging factors as well as on operational and environmental conditions, which could enhance (or smoothen) such factors. In practice, the involved dependences may burden the modeling of the reliability behavior over time, in which traditional stochastic modeling approaches may likely fail. Empirical prediction methods, such as support vector machines (SVMs), become a valid alternative whenever reliable time series data are available. However, the prediction performance of SVMs depends on the setting of a number of parameters that influence the effectiveness of the training stage during which the SVMs are constructed based on the available data set. The problem of choosing the most suitable values for the SVM parameters can be framed in terms of an optimization problem aimed at minimizing a prediction error. In this work, this problem is solved by particle swarm optimization (PSO), a probabilistic approach based on an analogy with the collective motion of biological organisms. SVM in liaison with PSO is then applied to tackle reliability prediction problems based on time series data of engineered components. Comparisons of the obtained results with those given by other time series techniques indicate that the PSO+SVM model is able to provide reliability predictions with comparable or great accuracy. Prediction of true critical temperature and pressure of binary hydrocarbon mixtures: A Comparison between the artificial neural networks and the support vector machine

Two main objectives have been considered in this paper: providing a good model to predict the critical temperature and pressure of binary hydrocarbon mixtures, and comparing the efficiency of the artificial neural network algorithms and the support vector regression as two commonly used soft computing methods. In order to have a fair comparison and to achieve the highest efficiency, a comprehen...

Stock Price Prediction using Machine Learning and Swarm Intelligence

Background and Objectives: Stock price prediction has become one of the interesting and also challenging topics for researchers in the past few years. Due to the non-linear nature of the time-series data of the stock prices, mathematical modeling approaches usually fail to yield acceptable results. Therefore, machine learning methods can be a promising solution to this problem. Methods: In this...

A Study of Wind Speed Prediction Based on Particle Swarm Algorithm to Optimize the Parameters of Sparse Least Squares Support Vector

Wind speed forecasting can accurately improve prediction efficiency of wind power in wind farm, decrease failure probability of wind turbine, and extend life cycle. An innovative algorithm is proposed to optimize both the parameters of least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) and the procedure of finding sparse support vector. Firstly, the defects of support vector are analyzed. Then inequa...

PREDICTION OF EARTHQUAKE INDUCED DISPLACEMENTS OF SLOPES USING HYBRID SUPPORT VECTOR REGRESSION WITH PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION

Displacements induced by earthquake can be very large and result in severe damage to earth and earth supported structures including embankment dams, road embankments, excavations and retaining walls. It is important, therefore, to be able to predict such displacements. In this paper, a new approach to prediction of earthquake induced displacements of slopes (EIDS) using hybrid support vector re...
